Fril, I could slap you. Hashing is a form of encryption. To address your specific question though, vBulletin uses a non-standard encryption method. Consisting of taking the md5 hash of the password, concatenating a salt string and taking a second md5 hash.

sorry @ Inde and the rest of guru tech staff. didn't mean to bash your security, just trying to figure out how this happened.
yes, i'm an idiot and had my email and password the same on guild wars login and in my paypal login. so the hacker got to my bank accounts too. purchased a license from jelsoft (makers of vbulletin software) but has not used it yet, once he does they can hopefully track it back and legally declare it identity theft, thus getting the fbi involved. didn't mean to question anyone's hard work and dedication, just anxious to get this guy. |
